Democratic Sen. Pat Leahy of Vermont on Monday said he wouldn’t seek re-election in the 2022 race for his seat, bringing an end to a U.S. Senate career that began nearly 50 years ago. “It is time to pass the torch,” Leahy, 81, told reporters at a news conference. Leahy’s decision comes as Republicans are aiming to take back control of the narrowly held Senate and House in November 2022’s midterm elections.
