S&P 500, Nasdaq see record finish as investors brace for heavy earnings week

Stocks ended mostly higher Monday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite each finishing at records as investors kicked off one of the busiest weeks of earnings season and awaited a midweek Federal Reserve meeting. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.18% bucked the trend, slipping around 62 points, or 0.2%, to finish near 33,982, according to preliminary figures. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.18% rose around 8 points, or 0.2%, to close near 4,188, eclipsing its previous record close of 4,185.47 set on April 16. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.87% advanced around 122 points, or 0.9%, to around 14,139, topping its previous all-time high finish of 14,095.47 from Feb. 12.
