Nasdaq and S&P 500 post gains early Thursday, with Dow in modest retreat


U.S. stocks opened on Thursday after the European Central Bank raised interest rates by 50 basis points, or half a percentage point, and investors assessed a stream of corporate earnings results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.29% fell 125 points, or 0.4%, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.23% declined 0.2%. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.52% edged down 0.1% after opening with a small gain.
