Market Pulse: Stocks open higher in attempt to bounce at end of another rough week


U.S. stocks opened higher Friday, attempting a bounce at the end of another tough week that’s pushed the S&P 500 to the brink of a bear market.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.47% rose 245 points, or 0.8%, while the S&P 500 SPX, +2.39% was up 1.2% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +3.82% bounced 1.9%. The Dow was still on track for a 2.8% weekly loss, while the S&P 500 was down 3.6% and the Nasdaq headed for a 4.7% decline.
