Korea’s SK Inc. invests in Bill Gates-backed nuclear power company TerraPower

South Korea’s SK Inc. is investing $250 million as part of a $750 million private funding round for Bellevue, Wash.-based TerraPower LLC, according to reports on Monday. TerraPower has been backed by the U.S. government, Microsoft Corp. MSFT, +1.70% co-founder Bill Gates and Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s BRK.A, +1.66% Warren Buffett. The company plans to build a “next wave” Natrium nuclear power plant in Kemmerer, Wyo. Gates is also the founder and chairman of TerraPower, which launched in 2006. The company specializes in small modular reactors, or SMRs, to meet energy needs without generating greenhouse gas emissions.
