U.S. retail sales likely surged 1.5% in October to mark the biggest gain in seven months, according to economists polled by the Wall Street Journal. Sales minus autos are estimated to have risen 1%. Americans are spending more, but they are also paying more because of high inflation. The U.S. Census will release the report at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.04% and S&P 500 SPX, -0.00% were set to X in Tuesday trades.
