Dow industrials give back one-third of Fed-day surge at opening bell Thursday


Stocks fell at the open Thursday, giving back a chunk of the huge rally seen the previous session after the Federal Reserve delivered a half-point rate hike but signaled that larger moves weren’t being actively considered. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.78% dropped 308 points, or 0.9%, giving back around a third of Wednesday’s rise. The S&P 500 SPX, -1.05% dropped 1.2% to 4,249 after rising nearly 3% the previous session, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -1.71% shed 1.7%.
