DirecTV will pull RT channel from its lineup

DirecTV will stop offering RT America, the Russian state-owned media channel, the telecommunications company said Monday. “In line with our previous agreement with RT America, we are accelerating this year’s contract expiration timeline and will no longer offer their programming effective immediately,” the spokesman told MarketWatch. DirecTV had already been in the process of evaluating whether RT America was valuable to its subscriber base and sped up the timeline for expiration due to the events in Ukraine, according to the spokesperson. DirecTV became its own company in August after it separated from AT&T Inc. T, -0.70%, which now has a 70% interest in the new company. Private-equity company TPG Capital has a 30% interest in the satellite-TV company.
