The Food and Drug Administration said late Wednesday that base powder for Mead Johnson’s Enfamil baby formula will begin shipping in June from Singapore to a Minnesota plant. The final product will be available “in the coming weeks,” the FDA said, with monthly follow-on shipments continuing through November. The formula would be used to meet contractual obligations under the federal WIC nutrition-aid program, it said. The FDA estimated it would get some 4.5 million pounds of base powder. The agency late last month loosened some of its requirements for the WIC program, which has been hit hard by shortages and a recall in February of brands made by Abbott Laboratories ABT, +1.81%, including Similac formulas.
